When I wrote Islands, I unwittingly found that theatre could have an enormous effect upon people’s lives.

Before Islands was presented, North Haven was a bitterly divided community.  Neighbors literally hated neighbors.  But then, after the production of Islands, and with the completion of Waterman’s Community Center, all this slowly changed.  North Haven seems to me to be a much more neighborly place now.

All her life, Cindy Bullens felt that she was a man imprisoned in a woman’s body.  Sometime after Islands, she underwent an operation to transform herself from Cindy Bullens into Cidny Bullens.  It was difficult for many of us to make accommodations for her new persona, but whether Cindy Bullens, or Cidny Bullens, she remains the composer and lyricist of Islands, and everyone loves him for that.
